Gamstop registers 500,000 users.
Since its introduction in 2018, the national self-exclusion program Gamstop has marked a significant milestone: more than 500,000 customers have registered.
The free program has grown to be a crucial tool for people trying to manage their gambling habits because it enables users to ban themselves from all gambling websites licensed by the UK Gambling Commission for a maximum of five years.
With many choosing the full five-year exclusion period, over 440,000 consumers are currently actively excluded.
With 8,686 new registrants, April 2024 was a record-breaking month for Gamstop and the greatest monthly total since the service's launch.
Prior to the third annual Self-Exclusion Day on September 12, a significant occasion where football teams from all levels in the UK will spread awareness about the service, this new milestone statistic was announced.
Additionally, Ipsos, which recently polled over 4,650 users, will shortly publish an independent assessment of Gamstop. According to preliminary results, 78% of participants said they felt their expectations were satisfied by Gamstop, and 75% said they felt more in charge of their gambling choices.
"We have come a very long way since our launch in April 2018 and Gamstop is now widely recognised as an important tool to help vulnerable consumers take a break from their gambling," said Fiona Palmer, CEO of Gamstop, in reference to the recent registration milestone.
Through self-exclusion, we have helped hundreds of thousands of people regain control over their lives, and we look forward to helping many more in the years to future.
"It is appropriate that we conduct independent research on a regular basis to assess the service's efficacy, and we will soon be revealing the findings of an extensive listening exercise carried out by Ipsos, who polled thousands of Gamstop users."
